What the Remote Jobs Status in The US?

56% of companies worldwide allow their employees to work remotely. This number has been on constant rise, as more and more companies realize how much this type of employment can favor the success of their business.

That’s the global situation - but what about the US? Is remote work a rising trend among American companies as well? The short answer is yes. For the long one, keep reading!

How Popular Is Remote Work Across the US?

As of 2019, 16% of companies in America were fully remote, while 66% are hybrid, meaning that they offered some type of remote opportunity, besides the regular in-house ones. Others are mixed in a different way, as they allow their in-house workers to work from home a few days of the week: almost half of the American employees telecommute at least once a week.

And American workers are in on this trend: from 2005 to 2019, the number of employees who work from home regularly has increased by 159%.

What about Remote productivity levels?

77% of people who work from home feel like they’ve become more productive and the reasons why vary. 75% of them state they get more things done because they don’t get distracted as often and, 46% because they could have a more personal working environment and 71% because they didn’t have to commute.

People are a lot more productive when they’re happy with their working situation. And for some, flexibility is one of the top requirements when it comes to their professional life. In fact, 61% of employees have quit a job, or considered doing so, due to the lack of flexibility they had.

Why do American Companies Prefer to Hire Remotely?

It’s clear that telecommuting can bring many benefits to the employees, but they’re not the only wons who win in these circumstances - the companies do too. After all, why would remote work be such a rising trend if the businesses didn’t benefit from it?

Firstly, it boosts employee retention: American companies that allow remote work face 25% lower employee turnover. Giving the workers the flexibility they need means that they’ll have fewer reasons to quit. Not only do they have more time for non-work related chores and commitments, but they can be wherever they want. Plus, it shows that the companies trust their employees, which always makes for a good image.

Secondly, remote means lower costs. Between office appliances, electricity, property insurance, rent and other expenses, companies can save up to $11,000 a year.

Last but not least, allowing for remote work greatly increases the number of applicants the company can reach and hire. So if the perfect fit for a certain position in an American company is in Germany, there are no relocation details to worry about. It’s a lot easier and remote businesses in the US are certainly taking advantage of this perk, with Ukraine, Serbia and Armenia being some of the most popular countries to hire internationals employees from.
