And, chances are, if you’ve stumbled upon this page, you are looking for a solution. Well, look no further.
In today’s world of uncertainty, insuring your personal belongings and business tools, not to mention keeping your health and safety a top priority, is of the utmost importance. When traveling the globe, either for personal or professional reasons, you never know if and when unforeseen expenses may arise.
Protecting yourself, and your investments, while avoiding exorbitant medical bills overseas, is crucial. This is where SafetyWing can help.
Safety Wing COVID-19 Update:
As of August 1st, Nomad Insurance covers Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)! Coverage works the same as any other illness as long as it was not contracted before your coverage start date, and does not fall under any other policy exclusion or limitation.
Testing for COVID-19 will only be covered if deemed medically necessary by a physician. The antibody test is not covered, as it is not medically necessary.
If you don’t currently have an active policy with us, the COVID-19 coverage is automatically a part of your plan. If you currently have an active policy, upgrade your plan.
1. Nomad Insurance by Safety Wing?
Developed in Silicon Valley by three Norwegians, each from varying innovative backgrounds––law, policy, mathematics, computer science––SafetyWing has become the travel and medical insurance company for the modern age, and Nomad Insurance is one of two SafetyWing products paving the way.
Nomad Insurance is the future of insurance for frequent travelers, offering exceptional value and support. Quite simply, Nomad Insurance is insurance for nomads, covering people from all over the globe, while they are outside of their home country.
SafetyWing’s products operate with convenience and transparency in mind, offering comprehensive coverage for unexpected injuries and illness users may experience when abroad. With a Nomad Insurance policy, you are protected in the event of required emergency medical or dental treatment, hospital visits, prescription drugs, travel/ flight interruption, even lost luggage––all for below average rates.
Costs––at a glance
As with any company, the exact costs associated with a Nomad policy varies by age. But, to simplify matters, the fee structure is fairly easy to calculate. The younger the traveler, the lower the cost, and so on.
- AGE 18 – 39: Monthly price $40
- AGE 40 – 49: Monthly price: $64
- AGE 50 – 59: Monthly price: $101
- AGE 60 – 69: Monthly price: $137
These rates are considerably lower than most travel insurance competitors because of SafetyWing’s commitment to using cutting-edge technology to penetrate global banking markets. What’s more, the traditional processes associated with insurance companies are out the window. Gone are the consumer-facing agents and middleman––along with their costly overheads.
Additionally, by maintaining a singular policy structure for all clients, back-end processes are streamlined and simplified; clients who don’t have long-term illnesses are not continually compensating (via higher fees) for those who do. The balance is fair, so rates stay low.
How does SafetyWing Nomad Insurance benefit Digital Nomads and Long-Term Travelers?
If the low prices aren’t incentive enough, you can take a look at the types of coverage available with your Nomad policy.

Please check the policy to see which sports are not included.
What are some drawbacks to holding a Nomad policy?
You’ve seen the pros: affordable, comprehensive, convenient, transparent.
But what about the cons? Well, there can be cons associated with any insurance company–– it all depends on your particular situation:
- what type of coverage you are after,
- what level of protection do you require,
- how long you will be abroad,
- and the circumstances surrounding your reason for submitting a claim.
For most people, falling victim to theft, misadventure or medical distress while in a foreign country, is even more traumatic than were it to occur at home. But SafetyWing does everything to ensure that you are protected.
Similar to many other travel insurance policies, a Nomad policy excludes treatment for cancers, routine check-ups or physicals, and pre-existing medical conditions while abroad. However, they do offer coverage in your country of origin. So, if you are a long-term traveler who occasionally checks in at home, you can wait to have your routine doctor’s visits until then. But if you suffer from any pre-existing medical condition, it might not be the policy for you.
